RECORD REVIEW: Khaled – The Rabbit Hole

the_rabbit_hole_cover_large

So, what’s like one of my favorite things? When people take a bunch of stuff and mix it all fucking around and shit and then come up with something cool like Alternative World Fusion. That’s what you’ll get to meet when you listen to NYC-based Khaled’s upcoming release The Rabbit Hole. Lead singer and guitar player Khaled Dajani was born in Saudia Arabia, loves Rock n’ Roll, and plays the shit out of the guitar. Drummer and percussionist Fred Vasaturo is a Staten Islander who somehow managed to immerse himself in world rythms (Brazilian Samba and Baio, the Afro-Cuban Songo and Bembe and the American Swing’s Shuffle… those are real things), and get pretty fucking great at drummering them out despite being from Staten Island. Khaled’s music is a very unique blend of Middle Eastern and Spanish influences, plus a little rock… hence Alternative World Fusion. Anyway, talk about a real story of East meets west. I mean literally, like if you are looking at a globe, there’s the Middle EAST and then Spain is totally WEST of that… wait… no, that’s right (oh yes I did just Google image search a world map). My favorite two songs off this album? The Note and Cara Guapa. Check him out at http://www.khaledis.me/.

  • Love the album... I know I'm the only one.

I am incredibly lucky to have heard this young man, Khaled Dajani, in person. His talent with his guitar is beyond what you would expect from someone so young. His songwriting is timeless poetry rather than just words to a song. Dajani plays with such confidence and soul that you wonder what makes this guy tick. Where did that talent come from?
Dajani is part philosopher and part musician. He has what appears to be an innate ability to fuse guitar and words into a very pleasant mix that relaxes you and keeps you on the edge at the same time. Wonderful!!! I want to hear more.

I found Kahled Dajani on wohomusic and ended up spending an hour surfing everything I could find on the web...incredible artist. Lauren, thanks for not giving up on writing and highlighting Kahled here.
